Skim Plastering

Skimming is a plastering technique that involves applying a thin, final layer of finishing plaster to create a smooth, polished surface, ready for painting or wallpapering.

This final coat, typically 3mm to 5mm thick, ensures a flawless finish. Once fully dried, the surface is ready for decoration. Skimming is a versatile method that can be applied over various backgrounds, each requiring specific preparation:

High Suction Backgrounds

These include materials like hardwall or bonding. To achieve the best results, these surfaces should be primed with a diluted bonding agent such as PVA or SBR.

Low Suction Backgrounds

Painted walls, ceilings, or surfaces with textures like Artex require different preparation. Applying a bonding product such as yellow, green, or blue grit ensures proper adhesion and optimal results to these kinds of surfaces

At OPS we typically apply two coats, with a setting time of approximately 3.5 to 4 hours, depending on the size and scope of the project that we are working on for our clients.

Our techniques ensure a professional-quality finish, making it an essential step for achieving beautifully smooth surfaces that will last a very long time.
